Who We Are
GVF is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to addressing the needs of individuals with vitiligo and their caretakers through education, clinical care, research, emotional support, community building, and advocacy.
As the global leader for vitiligo science and support, GVF collaborates with medical experts, researchers, and families to champion the needs of individuals affected by vitiligo by raising public awareness, expanding knowledge, and advocating for those in our community.
Strategic Plan 2026-2028
The Global Vitiligo Foundation has seen significant growth and progress since its establishment as a committee in 2011 and its official incorporation in 2016. Building on this momentum, GVF’s Board of Directors met in early 2026 to develop its 2026-2028 Strategic Plan.

The Global Vitiligo Foundation experienced a remarkable period of growth, collaboration, and impact in 2025. Thanks to the dedication of our leaders, volunteers, donors, and partners, GVF advanced its mission in meaningful ways throughout the year.
History of GVF
The Global Vitiligo Foundation (GVF) was originally established in 2011 as the Vitiligo Working Group, a committee of the Skin of Color Society (SOCS), by Henry Ford Hospital physicians Henry W. Lim, MD, FAAD, and Iltefat Hamzavi, MD, FAAD. It was incorporated as the Global Vitiligo Foundation in 2016. Although the organization began as a physicians’ working group, the organization expanded its scope to include the voice of individuals living with vitiligo. Today, GVF is led by a unified coalition of global experts in vitiligo treatment and patient advocacy.
